X-Message-Number: 3932 Date: Tue, 28 Feb 1995 23:06:37 -0500 (EST) From: Robin Helweg-Larsen <> Subject: campus speakers; SCI.CRYONICS Joseph Strout recently solicited comments on bringing in cryonics speakers for university campuses. I'm greatly in favor of the idea, and I believe university students should be the most receptive of all to the message, and are essential for the long-term health of cryonics. I travel and give seminars for a living, and was in San Diego in January to teach "Finance in 1 Day" for Hewlett-Packard; I expect to be back later in the year. However, I am comparatively new to cryonics, and am not confident I could answer all the questions that might be thrown at me. (The presentation itself should be no problem, I have assembled and assimilated enough material to be able to present cryonics interestingly and coherently, if not with as much depth as key figures in each of the organisations.) I'm actually working on an idea with a doctoral student here at UNC Chapel Hill to present cryonics to his medical philosophy class, and he will help with the unexpected questions. If this works out, it should be feasible for me to do it anywhere. My upcoming stops are booked for Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill; the Bay area; Atlanta; Dallas; Boston; New York/New Jersey; Toronto; and Washington DC; that's by the end of June. I'll also be Victoria, BC, and I could presumably stop over when changing planes in Chicago, Seattle, etc, or could change my routing with minimum hassle. I am extremely interested in this idea, and was already starting to work towards it. My biggest drawback is: I'm not as knowledgeable or experienced in cryonics as I should be. But on the plus side: I do something similar for a living already, and travel a lot; and I am sufficiently sympathetic to all cryonics groups that I have not been able to choose sides and join one - ie, I'm a reasonably detached observer, while committed to the movement. I would like to be thought of as a possible resource to call on, anyway! And if there is anyone else who would like to either link up on a presentation, or just share ideas, I'd be glad to hear from them! Always optimistically, Robin Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=3932
