I read a few years ago about a mathematician with a brain tumor who wanted
to, er, intentionally cease metabolizing before the tumor destroyed his
consciousness, and go into cryonic suspension. As I recall, a court had
ruled that he couldn't do that because the process would kill him.

This guy was very, very worried about slowly changing from a conscious
individual to a nonconscious one "in many small steps without a dividing
line." What finally happened to this guy, anyway? I hope he worked it
out somehow. What a horrible predicament.
