The Turing Test was aimed at evaluation of, and detecting valid, AI
systems, i.e. is this a machine that thinks.

The Truing test was based on the idea that if other thinking machines
(e.g. people) thought the machine under test was think then it meets
the world standard for a thinking machine.

It was suggusted by Turing that the best way to undertake this
evaluation was to set up a panel of people to judge by 'talking' to
and questioning a group of subjects, within the group would be the
system undergoing the test together with a mix of 'normal' people.
If after a period of time the panel could not detect which was the AI
system then it would have passed the Turing test.

Truing subjusted that all answers be sent remotely via teletype, i.e.
to stop the panel of judges baseing thier answer on the fact that
one of the group was metal and covered in lights and the rest of the
group were pink/brown and covered in skin.

As a point of interest a number of AI systems have now past the
Turing test, but only by limiting the range of topics that the panel
could talk to the group about. Therefore some or all of the postings
to cryonet could be by AI systems.

                            All the best
