Subject: SCI.CRYONICS Re: Improving Memory

     Thanks to John K Clark for the interesting post concerning the article
from CELL about a protein which improves fruit fly long term memory.

     I wish to make 2 comments in connection with this post.

1)   I believe that everyone is too closely associating memory with
intelligence. Many animals which are not very intelligent have large and
long lasting memory stores. Although, I think that it is logical that there
appear to be none that have superior intelligence while having poor
memories.

2)   I think it is more reasonable that *memory* might involve "hundreds or
thousands of genes", since it is certainly a less recently evolved animal
attribute than intelligence. If there is a separate "conventional wisdom"
for intelligence and it is the same as for memory, then I find that much
less reasonable.
