This research was both exciting and practical. It showed that, although some freezing damage still occurs, under optimum conditions it is less severe than many of us feared, and there is real hope of repair and resuscitation in the future. This news has caused barely a ripple of interest here. Meanwhile, posts about uploading and other half-baked techno-fantasies continue as vigorously as ever. As someone who has written science fiction, I am certainly interested in speculation--provided we see it for what it is. I see absolutely no point in pursuing speculation as if it has immediate practical value; and this means that I see very little point in CryoNet as it now functions. The unwillingness of cryonicists to fund serious research, or even think about serious research, is to me the biggest and most irritating paradox in this strange little backwater. ############################################################## Charles Platt / 1133 Broadway, room 1214 / New York / NY 10010 Phone 212 929 3983 email fax 212 807 6111 Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=4490
