X-Message-Number: 4524 Date: Mon, 19 Jun 95 11:33:55 CDT From: (Patrick Hopkins) Subject: FDA and regulation Thomas Donaldson writes >>As for what I HOPE, I hope that by then the FDA either will simply not exist, or will still exist as a far smaller agency with, perhaps, only the power to decide that a brand of drug has been adulterated or not. And there is some reason to believe that this hope will come true. If your congressman is a Republican, you might write him about the FDA. Saul Kent has been fighting the FDA for some time, and I'm sure that anyone who contacts him to do something in this battle will get a nice reception. ---------------- I wanted to point out that just because the Republicans dislike the FDA doesn't mean that they won't find other ways to restrict cryonics activity. After all, in the same bill that deregulates the communications industry (in the name of smaller gov't and keeping the state out of individuals' lives) the Senate okayed the Exon amendment which attempts to censor all computer communications. Of course, Exon is a democrat, but his amendment was lobbied for heavily by such Republican mainstays as The Christian Coalition and other conservative organizations. These sorts of organizations tend to oppose any technology that appears to interfere with what they see as "natural" ways of living.
