Subject: ACS-BPI Contract

This is to reply to Guy Gipson's and Tim Freeman's respective postings on
cancellation of the American Cryonics Society (ACS)-BioPreservation (BPI)
contract.

First, I have not read the information which Guy referees to, but I have
heard that one of the cryonics publications published something on this
topic. Since I haven't read it, I can't comment on this article.

In Mike Darwin's notice of cancellation he indicated he needed more time
for research and felt the importance of that research warranted
cancellation of our contract to help provide the needed time. Although
Mike and BioPreservation have benefited significantly (as has ACS) from our
contracting, ACS can't hope to match the expected cash flow to BPI from
research contracts.

I have nothing but good things to say about Mike and the other folks at
BioPreservation. Mike performed four suspensions for us, more during this
contract time period than were performed by all other cryonics societies
and companies combined. We are well satisfied with Mike's diligence,
integrity, dedication, and the overall quality and performance of work by
him and his associates. His cancellation was fully in compliance with the
terms of his contract. He also worked closely with us in training,
consulting, and equipment acquisition, and will continue to help us in
these areas. There were no hard feelings or bad blood between us, either
during the contract period, or later. In short, we continue to enjoy good
relations with Mike, and should his services again be made available to us,
on a contract basis, we are certainly interested.

Please also note, that our contract with CryoSpan continues in force. We
are now using, and expect to continue to use, the services of that company,
as well as the services of the Cryonics Institute, for long-term cryogenic
storage of ACS patients.

It wouldn't be appropriate for me to speculate, or otherwise comment, on
the "Alcor/Darwin split." Because of the good relationship ACS and
BioPreservation continue to enjoy, and the many ways we continue to
positively interact, we have no reason to publicly grumble in this, or any
other, forum.

Long Life,

Jim Yount
President, ACS
