X-Message-Number: 454 From att!cup.portal.com!Eric_S_Klien Mon Sep 16 15:46:17 PDT 1991 From: Date: Mon, 16 Sep 91 15:46:17 PDT It looks like the FDA is trying to declare that vitamins and minerals are drugs which means that they would have to pass FDA approval before U.S. citizens could be told that vitamins may actually make you more healthy. FDA approval would cost tens of billions of dollars for the Life Extension Foundation, considering how many vitamins they sell plus the normal huge cost per approval of a drug. Under the new guidelines of vitamins = drugs, the FDA is now in a position to stop vitamin suppliers from saying that vitamins can help certain problems. This goes against freedom of speech. This also causes tens of thousands of deaths and injuries because The Life Extension Foundation would no longer be able to point out scientific studies that have shown which vitamins will help which health conditions. If the vitamin suppliers violate these new rules they can be shut down, cutting off the supplies of vitamins to U.S. citizens, effectively making vitamins illegal drugs. I sent info about the plight of The Life Extension Foundation to The Wall Street Journal, Investor's Business Daily, the Boston Globe, the Boston Herald, TV Channel 5, and the U.S. attorney we were told to write to. Note that The Wall Street Journal recently reported that the FDA is going berserk. Also note that my last letter to the Boston Globe, protesting Secret Service invasions of cyberspace was published, so I am pretty good at getting my letters published.
