Subject: Discussion of organizational structure on the net
Date: Thu, 29 Jun 1995 10:26:31 PDT

There are several different cryonics organizations, and they
have rather different organizational structures, philosophies,
etc. It seems reasonable to discuss the relative advantages
and disadvantages of different approaches, but it's also the
case that discussions about a subject where there are so many
deeply held convictions can deteriorate into a flame war
(of limited value and unlimited size).

Give the "other guy" the benefit of the doubt: people usually
think about the subject, decide which ideas and approaches they
think are important, and then join an organization that's most
in keeping with their beliefs. It's not surprising, therefore,
that people think that the organization they've joined has,
on balance, adopted the best position. And, of course,
are somewhat mystified at how anyone else can reach very
different conclusions. Remember, people of good will with
similar interests can and will disagree about subjects of
great importance. Also remember that events are not entirely
predictable and that all organizations and organizational
structures have some risk associated with them. "Time
and chance happeneth to them all." Only a miniscule
percentage of people in the world today think cryonics
is a good idea, and many of them are represented on the net.

The person you debate today might be the person who saves your
life tomorrow....
