TRANSPORT TRAINING COURSE

BioPreservation has tenatively scheduled a training course for Transport
Technicians Level A (Thumper supported external cooling,  IV medication and
geographical transport) and Level B (Extracorporeal blood washout/cooling) for
the last two weeks in August. 

WHEN:  The course will start on 19 August  at 0900 and end on 31 August, 1995.

Topics to be covered include:

LEVEL A:
*Pathophysiology of Warm Ischemic Injury.
*Administrative Procedures Medicolegal Risks.
*Pre-Arrest Patient evaluation and monitoring (pulse oximetery, cerebral
function, clinical assessment).
*Elements for Successful Planning of  a Standby (remote or local).
*Level A Cardiopulmonary Support Using closed-chest conventional CPR and
AC-DC-High Impulse CPR.
*Perfusion efficacy assessment.
*Monitoring, Sample Collection and note-taking.
*External Cooling.
*IV Access.
*Pharmacology and Protocol of Administration of Cerebroprotective Drugs.
*Physical Transport of the Patient.
*Troubleshooting.

LEVEL B

*Pathophysiology of cold-ischemic injury.
*Perfusate Design and Pharmacology
*Basic Theory of Extracorporeal Support (with emphasis on mechanisms and
hazards).
*Elements of the Extracorporeal Circuit.
*Set-Up and Prime of the Extracorporeal Circuit
*Establishing Extracorporeal Bypass and/or acute Total Body Washout.
*Troubleshooting.

Participants may choose to attend Level A alone, or Level A *and* Level B.

REQUIREMENTS AND RESTRICTIONS: 

 Participants must be 

*18 years-old or older and have a valid driver's liscence in the state in which
they reside.
*Able to lift 50 pound and generally in good health.
* Have no serious allergy to dogs.

Level B Participants must meet the requirements for Level A and:

*Have completed training for  EMT,  Paramedic,  Embalmer,  M.D., R.N. or Ph.D
(the latter with relevant experience). 
*Those WITHOUT these qualifications may call for an interview to determine if
the course would be suitable for their level of knowledge and skill.

WHERE: The course will be held at BioPreservation and 21st Century Medicine's
facilities at 10743 Civic Center Drive, Rancho Cucamonga, CA 91730. Phone:

HOUSING AND MEALS:  Housing can be provided for up to 5 participants (Level B is
restricted to no more than 5 participants) and is included in the cost of the
training. Meals are not included however,  a kitchen is available in the
facility and resturaunts of widely varying cost and quality are nearby.
Overflow housing may be available (in selected cases) in both Riverside, CA and
Wrightwood, CA; in some cases with transporation to and from housing.

TUITION: Tuition for Level A is $1,000 per person.  Couples (call for
definition) may apply for a lower rate.  Tuition may be reduced or waived in
exchange for working commitments on BPI's in-field Transport Team.

Tuition for Level B is normally $1500.  However, for those wishing to contract
with BPI to provide services, this fee will be waived for this particular
course.

EXCLUSIONS: This course is open to persons meeting the above requirtements who
are not employees or volunteers for the Alcor Life Extension Foundation or any
of its subsidiaries and who will not be Alcor employees or volunteers for a
period of 2 years from the date of completion of the course.  


Non-disclosure Agreements will be required (covering *only* the pharmacology and
specialized CPR sections of the course) by all participants who do not
subsequently contract with BPI to provide services.
