Ice expansion is a real problem for large object such a corpse. There have 
been talks about use of fluorocarbon compounds as blood substitute for many 
years now. I don't know about their freezing point or mechanical properties 
in solid form. I would guess they shrink when frozen as most materials, so 
that a proper mixture with water would produce a zero expansion effect and 
no tensions or cracking. may be a subject to look at...?
