Media Notes:

Caipirinha Films has announced the completion of a documentary film called
"Synthetic Pleasures." The film features segments on cryonics, virtual
reality, artificial intelligence, "plastic beauty", nootropics,
nanotechnology, cyber sex, transhumanism, biotechnology, artificial nature,
and "terminal identity". It includes interviews with John Barlow, R.U.
Sirius, and Timothy Leary, apparently with lots of modern rock music in the
background.

Today I received this announcemnet:

I also have news of a new 13 part series for The Learning Channel which may
interest most of us. It is called *Ultrascience* and, as near as I can tell,
it focuses on speculative science and the future. Alcor and cryonics is
featured in week 10. I'll post the entire series list here, since so many of
these will be of interest. I don't have details on what these titles mean,
so you'll have to guess a bit. My impression of the British crew that worked
on this was very good; but who knows how it will turn out?

*Ultrascience* will air in the U.S. on Wednesdays from 8:30-9:00 pm ET and
11:30-12:00 midnight ET. It will repeat on Sunday from 5:30-6:00 pm. ET.
Check your local listings.

1. "Sex Appeal" -- Wed. Sept 27 and Sun. Oct. 1
[This was actually supposed to be later in the series but the cable
channel bumped it up to #1. Gee, I wonder why?]

2. "Forever Young" -- Wed. Oct. 4 and Sun. Oct 8

3. "Into the Microworld" -- Wed. Oct. 11 and Sun. Oct. 15

4. "A Case of Murder" -- Wed. Oct. 18 and Sun. Oct. 22

5. "Invaders" -- Wed. Oct. 25 and Sun. Oct. 29

6. "The Big Thrill" -- Wed. Nov. 1 and Sun. Nov. 5

7. "Techno Treasure Hunters" -- Wed. Nov. 8 and Sun. Nov. 12

8. "Return of the Plagues" -- Wed. Nov. 15 and Sun. Nov. 19

9. "Mind Games" -- Wed. Nov. 22 and Sun. Nov.

10. "Impossible Dreams" -- Wed. Nov. 29 and Sun. Dec. 3
[This is the episode which includes cryonics. Supposedly this will
compare some science fiction themes with the working out of those ideas
      in the "real" world.]

Repeat. "Sex Appeal." -- Wed. Dec. 6 and Sun. Dec. 10

11. "Super Humans" -- Wed. Dec. 13 and Sun. Dec. 17

12. "What do Animals Think?" -- Wed. Dec. 20 and Sun Dec. 24

Repeat. "Forever Young" -- Wed. Dec. 27 and Sun. Dec. 31

13. "Fast Frozen Future" -- Sometime in early January. date TBA
[Oddly, this is NOT the one with Alcor in it, as far as I have been
      told.]

If you want to comment on the series, write to Jayne Johnston at The
Principal Film Company Limited, Arlette House, 143 Wardour Street, London W1V
3TB. Telephone 0171-734-0087 or FAX 0171-434-9869. (Outside of Great
Britain, drop the initial "0" and start with the country code "44.")
