(Steve Jackson) Subject: Re: cryonics: #517 - #522 I hope that Dr. Donaldson will offer a more reasoned reply than "nonsense . . . not worth the time to refute" on the question of science fiction as cautionary tales. It's especially ironic to hear that non-argument from a cryonicist, when so often the whole subject of cryonics is dismissed as "nonsense . . . not worth the time to refute" by professional know-nothings. Incidentally, Niven's victimized corpsicles were not raided for their organs per se. The future in which they awoke could not (or chose not to) salvage their bodies, but it could save their minds and personalities. It used these minds as a source of highly experienced workers with no civil rights. Just calling this scenario "nonsense" doesn't make it so. One MUST NOT ever start a plan for the future with the phrase "No one would ever want to . . . ." Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=531
