X-Message-Number: 5664 From: Date: Thu, 25 Jan 1996 12:24:36 -0500 Subject: dogmas? It certainly isn't very important, but it was pretty careless of Mike Darwin (#5661) to call me a "dogmatist." I have no dogmas, and he hasn't absorbed what I have said on the subjects he refers to--two of them basically, related but different. 1. Criteria of identity or of survival: I have repeatedly said that this question is unresolved. 2. Seat or source of feeling and consciousness, the "self circuit" or "subjective circuit:" I have merely pointed out that (a) we know it exists (whether or not the name is well chosen) since we have feeling and consciousness; and (b) given reasonable assumptions, it must be some subset of the brain and its functions. No dogmas here, just us chickens. Robert Ettinger Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=5664
