Immortalism will force serious attention to birth control. Pacific 
islanders maintained population constant on their islands for centuries
by one (primitive, but very direct!) method, infanticide. We of course
can be a good deal kinder and subtler.

Furthermore, if everyone expects to live 20,000 years, they are unlikely
to spend that time in producing child after child after child. Birth rates
even now adjust automatically (though there is a lag) to death rates.
