X-Message-Number: 5885 From: Peter Merel <> Subject: New Scientist article on Flying Saucers Date: Thu, 7 Mar 1996 01:34:45 +1100 (EST) Thomas Donaldson writes, > An observation is not a theory, and the theories proposed, of either > telekinesis or flying saucers, look very shaky at best. I'm sorry to detract from Thomas's argument, but he might like to seek out the 17 Feb. 96 New Scientist - the lead article is all about recent research on something called an "air spike", a method of using a plasma to introduce a paraboloid shockwave running ahead of a disk-shaped lifting body. The authors suggest that this method, combined with an MHD drive, could allow highly economical travel through the atmosphere and even into orbit at speeds in excess of Mach 25. The front cover of this issue features a flying orange-juicer. But of course I'm not suggesting (or denying ... :-) that military craft from one or another government have already mastered this technology ... but it wouldn't be an incredible theory. The coloured lights, anal probes and ET masks on the "aliens" that land in these things could just be a cover story - after all, if someone in an ET mask performed an anal probe on you, could you maintain the presence of mind to ask snoopy questions about their vehicle? Peter Merel, who thinks crop circles are made by lame cows. Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=5885
