Subject: NEW INFO ON MAD COW DISEASE

The May 1996 issue of Discover magasine has an interesting article on
BSE or mad cow disease. Turns out the latest tests indicate that humans
cannot get 'standard' BSE because the prion involved is unable to affect
the different PrP proteins human brains possess. This explains why the
human version of BSE is so rare - only a rare varient of BSE can leap the
species barrier and infect humans.
I suspect many more of us humans have consumed BSE tainted beef than
the beef industry is willing to admit.
