X-Message-Number: 6191 Date: 12 May 96 21:43:55 EDT From: Carlos Mondragon <> Subject: SCI.CRYONICS:Leary Neary all of the recent messages mentioning Timothy Leary have implied or, in one case directly stated, that Timothy is a "flake". Some have said that Timothy was less interested in cryonics than he is in creating a public stir (its called guerilla ontology). Well, I met Timotjy about 16 years ago, and I've read his books, and I can state categorically that he is anything but flakey. In fact, the irony of regular contributors to this list calling *him* flakey would make me laugh out loud if it weren't for the tragic circumstances. Timothy has always had a first rate mind, and in a world rife with injustice, inhumanity and stupidity, he has kept his sense of humor and lived his life with sterling character. And he has been an agent for positive change, even while being persecuted for his efforts. Whether a publicized cryonic suspension of Timothy Leary would have been of net benefit to the cryonics movement or not is wholly irrelevant. His writings have included immortalist concepts since well before he signed himself up. He even managed to say things supportive of cryonics in the face of what happened. Perhaps some cryonetters should learn to SMI(2)LE. Carlos Mondragon Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=6191
