Brian stated in the CryoNet digest of 7/25/96 (sorry, I have to paraphrase
here) that cryonics membership organizations would count contributions by
individuals, which the organization would bundle to purchase shares in the
Prometheus organization, toward the cryopreservation fees of that
individual. This is the first I have understood anyone to propose this.
While this idea is great from the standpoint of the individual -- if you can
afford to pay your preservation fee up front, you can do so AND target the
fees for Prometheus -- it doesn't sound so great from the standpoint of the
membership organization, which would be investing in a high-risk venture
with funds that have to be there for hundreds of years.

My understanding was that the individuals would be able to apply their
SHARES toward their cryopreservation fees at par, and that the membership
organization would be able to turn right around and apply those same shares
at par toward royalty fees. Under this scheme the individual has an
incentive to purchase shares (though not as strong) and the membership
organization does not have to incur any risk.

I would appreciate hearing from Wakfer where he stands or what he has
actually proposed. As you know, I support a level playing field, with
maximum incentives for everyone to invest.
