The Prometheus Project:
Convincingly demonstrated, scientifically proven and published,
fully reversible long-term brain cryopreservation within 10 years.
Latest Pledge Totals
As of midnight July 26, 1996, the total of pledges is $209,000.00 per
year for each of 10 years. John K Clark announced his pledge for $1,000.00
per year for 10 years in CryoNet message 6617 and here on sci.cryonics. Many
thanks to John for responding to this effort to enormously enhance the
practicality, and the scientific and public image of cryonics. I particularly
liked John's explanation of the reasons for his pledge because they almost
exactly describe my own reasons for starting this project. I believe that
they are well worth repeating here:
It could be that Nanotechnology is needed for reversible brain
cryopreservation, but too many people I respect think otherwise for me to
ignore the possibility. Although small by some standards this would be the
largest research project ever undertaken in this area, the largest by far.
Interesting things will certainly be found, and if the goal is actually
reached the world will never be the same.
I can't imagine ever regretting this decision, if it works I'll be
rather proud of myself for helping, and I might even make some money, gaining
immortality wouldn't be too bad either. If the goal is not reached at least I
won't be tormented with the thought that it failed because people like me had
no interest in it.

I am quite moved John, that is truly one of the most ingenuous expressions of
support that the project has received.
Pledge totals in each dollar level are now:
3 for $25,000.00 per year for 10 years,
8 for $10,000.00 per year for 10 years,
5 for $5,000.00 per year for 10 years,
1 for $4,000.00 per year for 10 years,
1 for $3,000.00 per year for 10 years,
2 for $2,000.00 per year for 10 years,
18 for $1,000.00 per year for 10 years.
The 38 pledges total $2,090,000.00 over all ten years.

Canada $22,000.00
France $2,000.00
United States $177,500.00
No country $5,000.00
There are still many cryonicists who are dedicated and active on these
lists, who we haven't heard from. Several *have* come forward lately - Thomas
Donaldson, Mike Perry, John Clark, Ben Best, even Keith Lynch with honest,
reasonable questions. Where are the others who we used to hear from so often?
