With respect to Steve Farmer's accusations regarding the Prometheus
Project:

In the first place, nobody has made any money off of cryonics. In fact,
many have taken substantial losses in pay for the purpose of benefiting
the cryonics movement. My good friend Mike Perry, for instance, has a Ph.D
and he chooses to work at Alcor for a pittance because he believes the
possibility of saving his life and others is more important than money.
And, though I have had acrimonious and public disagreements with Paul
Wakfer, I respect the fact that he too has neary pauperized himself in an
effort to advance cryonics. I would think that Mr. Farmer's socialistic
tendencies would find these sorts of sacrifices admirable.

The Prometheus Project seems like the next logical step to achieve an
immense gain in this life saving technology (especially for those people
who see their cryonic suspension coming in the next 10 years, and that
could be any of us). I don't see how anyone could oppose raising money
for scientific research. The fact that knowledge can sometimes be very
expensive is simply a factor of the reality we live in, so there's not
much use complaining about it.

In spite of the fact that Mr. Farmer apparently shares my opinion of Saul
Kent and the Life Extension Foundation, it does not make me uneasy that
Saul is vocally supporting this project. As long as he's willing to give,
and as long as he will have no control over the company (anymore than any
other shareholder), then his money is as green as anybody elses. -dc
