X-Message-Number: 6672 Date: Sat, 3 Aug 1996 17:02:56 -0700 From: (Carol Shaw) Subject: Alcor North CA Meeting Sunday Aug. 11 - Prometheus Project The next Alcor Northern California cryonics meeting will be held on Sunday, August 11. Our guest speaker will be Paul Wakfer, who will talk about the Prometheus Project at 4:00 PM followed by a potluck supper and socializing. For those who have received the new Alcor wallet card, but haven't signed it yet, bring your card with you to have your signature witnessed. Paul Wakfer's summary of the Prometheus Project: The Prometheus Project is an exciting new idea to raise $1,000,000 per year for 10 years for the purpose of doing the scientific research necessary to convincingly demonstrate and publish in peer reviewed journals fully reversible brain cryopreservation. The full reversibility is to include the recovery of as much memory and other mental capacities as would be expected from a currently elective, similarly traumatic, medical operation. The money is being raised in the form of pledges which are to be turned into legally binding share purchase agreements with a for-profit corporation which will be formed to execute the project when $1M per year of pledgers have approved the scientific and business plans which will be formulated during the next year. Not a cent of pledge money is *due* before that time. After only 6 weeks of effort on the Internet, over $210,000 per year for all 10 years has been pledged by more that 40 participants.
