Date: 5 Aug 1996 13:39:36 GMT Message-ID: <4u4tio$> References: <4u0ruj$> <> There appears to be a major difference between the current issue involving embryos and that of cryonics patients. Cryonics patients are suspended using current technology with a belief that future technology will allow them to revived. Nobody would argue that a cryonics patient could be revived using current technology. Embryos are frozen using current technology with the assumption thay they will be unfrozen (defrosted sounds a little unpleasant!) and implanted using current technology. Even immediately after fertilisation, many of these embryos are classed as unlikely to be viable; freezing does not help the situation. The reason that so many are being destroyed is not that the 'parents' are not responding, it is primarily because they are the product of donor sperm which is donated anonymously and so it is impossible to trace the parents.
