Subject: 24th Century Medicine vs. Prometheus Project; redundant posts

This talk about the Prometheus Project makes me think back to the
previous campaign to raise capital for for-profit cryonics research,
namely 24th Century Medicine. I haven't heard news about that lately.
Where does that stand? If it doesn't stand where the Promethius
Project wants to go, then what are the important differences between
the projects that will lead to different results?

One obvious difference is that the Prometheus Project is accumulating
pledges before it really gets under way, whereas 24CM did the
paperwork up front and simply sold shares. Another difference is that
PP is a subscription deal, but 24CM had people pay their money up
front.

But these are advances in fundraising techniques; I don't see how they
would affect the research results unless someone wants to claim a
"critical mass" effect (which would not be unreasonable).

This is not bait; I honestly do not know what the research results
from 24CM are (were?), and whether there were any. Of the research
that I am aware of, I don't know what was funded by 24CM.

On a different note: At one time, we had CompuServe subscribers on
this list who were being charged for overly long email messages.
Beware that redundant posting reduces the number of readers.
