X-Message-Number: 6840 Date: Tue, 03 Sep 96 14:23:59 From: Dave Pizer <> Subject: no hard feelings Lets get past this and move forward. I think the Tim Leary matter has been fully debated and we have all made our points. There are 2 brief footnotes: 1. When CryoCare was first formed, it was formed with lots of criticism of Alcor. Alcor was constantly being compared (by CryoCare members) to a perfect cryonics organization. Of course, in that context, Alcor would always come out second best. No organization, or individual, can match an imaginary, perfect one. The people I remember as being most vocal were Saul Kent, Brian Wowk, Charles Platt and Steve Harris. These people had every right to start a new organization. I just wish they had proceeded a little differently. I think today, at least 3 of them wish they had proceeded differently. I commend them for that. Now that CryoCare has a record, Alcor can be compared to CryoCare and not an imaginary, perfect company. New prospects can make their own choices about which company is best for their own specific needs. It is time we let CryoCare's and Alcor's *actions* do the talking. I know Alcor is planning some very exciting events in the near future. I hope CryoCare is also working to bring new benefits to the cryonics community. 2. We need to look at the Tim Leary case *not* to blame, but to try to understand what happened where a cryonicist (for over 5 years) died and did not get frozen. This has happened before in several cases. None of us want it to happen to ourselves, yet every few years it does happen again. When examining this case, each cryonicist can learn to take steps to try to protect themselves from this happening to them. ================== Having said these two things, it is time to try to move beyond this. It is hard for people who were not victims in the original battle to understand the suffering that some people went through when the split took place. Myself, I thought I was working hard for Alcor as a volunteer. I worked hard to find Alcor a good deal on a new building. I worked hard to find new medical persons to join Alcor. I worked hard to raise large sums of money for Alcor. Next thing I know I was being vilified every day on a regular basis. It was a very painful time of my life. Other Alcor members were similarly attacked. It is hard for those people who were not victims in this affair to understand the depth of the suffering that was heaped on innocent persons. We need to get that behind us and move on to new challenges. We can not afford to waste time and energy on this matter, we need that time and energy to build ways to do more research. Otherwise we may all be doomed. I am putting my hard feelings aside and working towards new goals. I can work with almost anyone in the future to help bring about the research that NEEDS to be done. I challenge all others to do the same. Dave Pizer Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=6840
