Subject: Open Letter to Cryonics Editors

Attention: Ralph Whelan, Derek Ryan, Art Quaife, Mae Ettinger

On August 21 & 22, I sent the appended letter to you and all other cryonics
publication editors. I have received replies or had contact concerning this
matter with all other publication editors. But you four have not replied,
even as the first three of you did not reply to my earlier request for
coverage of Prometheus Project news in your publications. In order to
continue efficient planning for the Project I need the answers to the
following questions.

a) Will you or will you not publish these announcement free as a service to
your readers? If not, I would appreciate an explanation of why you feel
justified to deprive your readers of this choice?

b) Will or will you not accept these announcements as paid advertising? If
not, then would you please include the text of your policy on paid
     advertising?

c) Has a deadline for your publication passed by since you received my
request with the meeting announcements being published?

d) When is the next deadline for material to be in your publication and
when will that issue reach California subscribers?

Editors, I will soon have many additional meeting announcements for two or
three sets of national meeting tours next year. Therefore, I would appreciate
an immediate reply so that I can make alternate plans if necessary. And I
believe that, now, many others on CryoNet would also.

Paul Wakfer, Prometheus Project

------------ Text of earlier message to Editors ---------
Dear cryonics or related publication Editor,

Please find appended the announcements of two California meetings in
October at which the Science aspects of the Prometheus Project will be
discussed. I would like you to publish these in all issues of your
periodicals which will reach subscribers in the California area prior to the
meeting dates. Since the Prometheus Project is very important for the
advancement of cryonics and already has several pledgers among your
readership, I would expect that you will carry these announcements free of
charge. However, if you do not choose to do so, then I request for these to
be carried as paid advertising in, say, a half or full page, which you may
surround with any disclaimers you like. If you will only carry these as paid
advertisements, please send me the bill for prior approval unless to do so
would cause a publication deadline to be missed.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation,

Paul Wakfer

Prometheus Project Science Public Meetings

The featured speaker at each of these meetings will be an expert in
cryobiology who will speak about the science aspects of the Prometheus
Project. Paul Wakfer, founder of the Project will also be on hand to provide
information on other aspects of the Project and to give an update on the
progress of the pledge campaign.

Everyone interested in life extension is invited to attend.

The Prometheus Project is an exciting new proposal to convincingly
demonstrate and publish in scientific journals, the fully reversible
cryopreservation of a mammalian brain. This Project which is expected to take
10 years and to cost $1,000,000 per year, is currently in its pledge campaign
phase. The Project's scientific and business plans are being developed while
the pledge campaign is in progress. When sufficient pledges have been made, a
for-profit corporation will be formed to conduct the Project research and the
pledgers will be invited to purchase shares. After only 8 weeks of effort on
the Internet, over $3,000,000 has been pledged by more that 40 people.

Current work in organ cryopreservation is at an advanced stage of development
with research to reversibly vitrify rabbit kidneys very close to successful
completion. The cryobiologist who is acting as scientific advisor to the
Prometheus Project will describe how this work might be applied to the
reversible cryopreservation of the brain and will also describe methods for
demonstrating the restoration of mental faculties in such a recovered brain.
