Yes. Alcor is going to try to get more serious about raising money for research. We are hiring our staff to work overtime to help raise money. So far, Mike Perry, Joe Hovey and Ralph Whelan have all helped to develop Alcor's ability to raise more money. There is a budget of 25% of the donations that come in, that I administer. Out of that 25%, I pay the fund-raising workers and some expenses. We don't know what those expenses will be for the year. My guess is that the total out of pocket expenses will be about 15%, or slightly more. This will leave my net salary at about 10%. So if Alcor raises $100,000 in donations in 1997, about 15% will go to several staff members for their work and other expenses, and I will receive net about $10,000 for my year's salary. This will pay us to work on raising more money for 1998 and so forth. However as the amount of donations increases, the budget of 25% for fund raising decreases, we presume we will reach an economy of scales. Charles, I have already posted the exact figures through the end of August. Anyone else wanting updates or more information can contact me at Alcor. And, an annual accounting will be in our magazine each year. > > Is this true? > > --Charles Platt (asking on behalf of myself not CryoCare) > > PS. These are two very basic requests! Thank you for your pledge. As I understand it, a paper will be presented when the Vissers are ready or one year from their first patent application. I believe in either case it will be before the end of 1996. If we don't collect a lot for research, the Alcor research will be conducted by Hugh Hixon, with a little help from Rhonda, Tanya, Fred, Linda, and some of the other researchers. If we collect much more than yours and Brian's thousand each, we may add another scientist. The more money we collect, the faster we can commission the research. Right now we are just informally suggesting donations. In the past we have found that some people will donate from an informal request and some will want a more formal presentation. As we become more familiar with the technology, we may present a more detailed plan. Steve and Hugh will be in charge of this. All we appreciate all the enthusiasm and realize you must have a lot of questions about the technology and how the research will be done, I am not the person to answer these. It will be Alcor's policy for Steve to handle the communications on this in the future as our time is limited and we need to use it in the most cost-effective manner. > Incidentally, since I was one of the people who put $10,000 into the > startup of 21st Century Medicine, there is clear evidence that I have a > serious interest in helping to pay for research. We are recognize your interests in all the many areas of cryonics and we appreciate it. Dave Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=6933
