Carlos:
At the Alcor North meeting this evening one point was made which I think
needs answering. Apparently the building would need SOME modification,
mainly to allow entry and exit of the large suspension dewars. I am told
that the 2 big doors on the present Alcor facility have no match on the
new building. Large accessible spaces would need to be created.

A second question comes to my mind. You have almost answered it with your
present message, but maybe I want assurance. That is, is the Alcor vrs
Mitchell case going to be pressed with the same tenacity as now?

I wish that I had been present at that meeting, mainly because I've got
several conflicting views of what happened there. I know that some
members, justifiably or not, were made quite unhappy by the proceedings.
While the justification of meetings should not be to make happy all
of those who attend, it does disturb me that the suggestion that Alcor
might move out of state has evoked so much feeling. Your own comments,
after reflection, would be welcome --- but (even if Alcor doesn't pre-
tend to be a democracy!) if the Board does something that badly upsets
a large percentage of the members, something is wrong. They can always
run off to another society, for instance. I am glad to see how much
Alcor has grown, and still believe that it remains far ahead of the
competition (ACS to be precise). Yet it would border on tragedy for all
of that effort to fall apart --- as it looked that ACS would do 8 years
ago.
