Subject: Alcor move

Thanks Carlos,
I wish you'd given us the history of the site selection on e-mail
before the meeting, with those assurances that nothing would be
done unless the sitation approached perfection. I'm sure, if you
had trusted us to see the logic of the move, we wouldn't have needed
over four hours of Dave defending this one building in this one city.

If you would have been able to admit in advance that you didn't want
a committee formed or a motion to table a vote, we would have
understood and would have probably agreed with you. But you couldn't
trust us with your concerns that there would be more delays; there
was an "appearance" of a pre-conceived vote to ram the move vote
through. It was the appearance of a hasty decision that was frightening
more than the reality. I don't think there is anyone who believes you
and Dave want to harm Alcor, but there have been so many costly mistakes
before.

Alcor is a tiny company that makes approximately $80,000 a year (about
the same as a moderately busy 7/11 store). If Alcor didn't have
patients to care for, a company this size would have a very small
margin for error. With patients to care for, Alcor has NO margin for
error. This is the crux of my problem with the move.

With a project of this magnitude, given the size of this company, some
error is inevitable no matter how well it is planned in advance.
Where will the money come from to pay for this error if it happens?
Will we have to go back to our membership and ask to be bailed out again?
How can we convince contributors that the patient care fund won't be
put in jeopardy when we can't even balance a yearly budget?

Look, I don't mind being the "bad guy" if it gets you to go on record
supporting fiscal sanity. I tried to get a "votable" motion to seek
alternatives to one building-one town. I failed in the meeting, so
I used whatever means were available to me i.e. public exposure. Thank
goodness it has worked. We needed to hear from you Carlos, don't be
a stranger.

Love to all as always,

Mike
