=46or some reason, this image about uncaring cryonicists seems to be out
there. I disagree with this. I, myself, have committed many unselfish
and caring acts. I'm sure every other cryonicist has done the same.=20

But this image persists. I propose we do something about it. I have
recently posted on Cryonet a message describing the workshops planned
by the Cryobiology society aimed at teaching cryobiologists how to
cryopreserve endangered (certain-to-be-extinct) plants. As I recall,
they plan to freeze them for the future, in order that the genetic
heritage of those species not be lost. Sounds very altruistic and
caring, and maybe even practical.=20

So why don't we beat them to the punch? I'm sure every well-read
citizen is aware of the media factoid that every year X number of
plant species become extinct due to clearing of the rain forest. I
propose that we fund a cryopreservation for one or more of these
species. And that sounds like a very media-worthy event to me; bound
to improve our uncaring image.

I hereby pledge $30 for the cryopreservation of a suitable endangered
plant species, provided that efforts are made to attract media
attention (in which I will gladly take part). Is there room for a few
endangered weeds in a dewar somewhere?
