Report of the Meeting of the American Cryonics Society
Board of Governors

March 1, 1992
1735 Spruce Street, Apt. 4
Berkeley, CA

The meeting was called to order by Vice-President Jim Yount at 6:00
p.m. Mr. Yount welcomed members and guests. After discussion of
agenda items the meeting was adjourned at 6:45 p.m.

Transition of Officers

Jerry gave report on his getting acquainted with ACS office
procedures.. Jim reported working with Carmen on the preparation
of minutes and other matters pertinent to the office of Secretary.
Draft copies of minutes for last month's meeting were passed out
and corrections and proofing invited.

Secretary Carmen Brewer has taken over the task of answering the ACS
phone, especially in the mornings. Carmen has been mostly
responsible for answering our phone during this time period even
before assuming the office of Secretary. Carmen reported on
several phone inquiries we received as a result of our recent
publicity in Seattle Washington.

Anatomical Donation

A report was given on the cool-down for the brain of Jerry White's
mother which is now in suspension at the Trans Time facility.
There was a discussion of the techniques which have been devised
for temperature control and monitoring for this specimen. A
number of people, most notably John Day, have worked to develop
proper cool-down and storage procedures. Because of its smaller size
the techniques used for a brain differ from those we use with a
whole body or a head.

Publicity

A number of magazine articles on cryonics appeared recently. The
Examiner published two separate articles which dealt with cryonics
and were loosely based upon recent newspaper articles about the
American Cryonics Society and Dr. Ben-Abraham. OMNI featured a
short pro-cryonics article written by an Alcor member.

Facility Purchase Report

Carmen Brewer and Jim Yount reported on their progress to establish a
cryonics facility at the property in Sunnyvale the Alavie
investment group is buying. Jim said he would like to see ACS
receive space rent free in the building and suggested we need at
least 500 sq feet. Jerry White agreed with this and pointed out
that for several years Jim has been paying the office rent for the
ACS office in Cupertino out of his own pocket. John said there
might be some benefit to the building owners from ACS presence, he
also suggested that ACS should get some ownership in the building.

Emergency Notification and Response Service

There was a general discussion on ACS providing an emergency
notification service and issuing medic alert type bracelets to
subscribers.

Many ACS members are now subscribing to the Trans Time emergency
notification and response service (ER). One of our members
reported receiving notification from Trans Time that his service
was being terminated. The reason given was that Trans Time could
not guarantee a suspension to someone who has AIDS and who wants
neuro suspension (head-only).

Art Quaife said that problems with protecting suspension personnel
when dealing with an AIDS suspension at its present facility, plus
the stated refusal or reluctance of some members of the Trans Time
suspension team to work on an AIDS-neuro patient, had prompted the
termination. Art said this did not mean that Trans Time would not
do such a suspension but it would not guarantee that it would and
therefor should not take money for ER from this member. One
director pointed out that Trans Time could offer part of this
service. For example, they could notify ACS personnel if they
receive a phone call saying the member is at or near death.

Computer Networks

There was a discussion of whether or not ACS minutes should be
published on computer networks. It was decided to provide a
meeting summary, in lieu of minutes for publishing on networks or
for publishing in other forms.

Upcoming Meeting

The Trans Time Board of Directors meets on the same day and place as
ACS either before or after our meetings. All members and guests
are welcome to the buffet between meetings and to attend Trans Time
Board meetings.

An upcoming meeting of the American Cryonics Society will be held:

Sunday, April 26, at 6:00 p.m.

The Trans Time Facility
10208 Pearmain St.
Oakland, CA 94603
