Steve:
You make some good points about Pearson and Shaw. They seem to me to be
taking everything but the kitchen sink in pill form, and more credulous
of the implications of scientific papers than I too would want.

I do NOT believe, however, that only "scientists" can validly comment on
the work of other scientists. If you think a little you can see how vicious
that principle, which you seem to imply in your message, can really become.
But it does require honesty, an ability to admit that you are wrong, and
a careful attention to the same standard of truth that scientists them-
selves claim to adhere to.

Finally, any GERONTOLOGIST who complains about Pearson and Shaw should
first look to his own house and soul. The reason there are so many
popular antiaging books by people of such varying qualifications and
honesty is that almost NO such book, and very little attention, has been
given by gerontologists to the very real and serious desires of people to
live longer in good health. What then do you expect? If "real scientists"
don't provide any answers or suggestions, then others will step in to fill
that gap. So many of these guys have only themselves to blame.

PS: Note that I said "many", not all. But even so...
