Subject: Cryopreservation of Mouse Embryos

Appended below is a query from Juan Carlos Silva, who
plans to cryopreserve mouse embryos at CalTech and
has some questions about the procedure. (I offered to
forward his query to CryoNet.) Any assistance that the
CryoNet readers can provide would be appreciated. Thanks.

Mr Kevin Q. Brown,
I'm currently working for the California Institute of
Technology with transgenic mice. Very soon I'll start freezing mouse
embryos and I have already the equipment, but there are a few details
that I would like to check first with somebody with experience. Do you
know where I should ask???
          Regards Juan Silva

[ A followup message provided more details about his questions. - KQB ]

-Do you freeze embryos in straws or in vials?
-If straws, what supplier you use and diameter of straw.
-How do you identify the straws??
-Do you freeze the embryos in ethanol bath or in a chamber with liquid
nitrogen vapor.
-Do you have any problem in transfering the embryos from the chamber to the
tank?
-How do they storage in liquid nitrogen.
-What make and model of tank for storing frozen embryos you use.

You can post my questions as you mention before and include my e-mail address.

Thank you again for your collaboration. Juan Silva
