I am back at my work after a long sweet vacation.

Ethanol is indeed toxic under "normal" circumstances, I showed however that
this is not so at some low temperature / concentrations (msg 8256).

Paul Wafker wrote on cryonet (msg 8460) that he was planning to vitrify
hippocampus slices. I used hippoc. slices when I made researches into a
variety of CPA mixtures a couple of years ago. I found out that ethanol or a
mix of alcohols under special circumstances gave an excellent result,
increasing conc. depending on the actual temp on the "body solution",
starting just before the freezing taking place. The cells in CNS showed high
vitality not only in regions of hippoc but also in other regions. The
membrane of the investigated cells was intact as well.

About the vitrification, it is correct that it will not be satisfying if it
is too much water in the body solution. As you know, alcohols are strongly
dehydrating, only a very small amount of water is left in the cells when
they start to vitrify.
