Subject: Web advertising?

Doug Skrecky contemplates:

While I read several of the magazines on Doug's list casually, I don't
subscribe to one. The bits of verbage my eyes do regularly light upon every
day are the banners on a couple of search engines - infoseek and hotbot.

I wonder whether advertising on search engines mightn't be more economical
than in magazines? The medium is quite different in that you don't need
to waste space on details - just a single hook, perhaps a banner that
read, with apologies to Robert Anton Wilson, "An end to death and taxes!"
might be enough to get a high click-through.

Peter Merel.
