X-Message-Number: 8822 From: Olaf Henny <> Subject: Making Cryonics more User Friendly: Date: Sat, 22 Nov 1997 18:27:08 -0800 As I follow closely such NGs as <sci.cryonics>, <sci.life- extension> and am a subscriber to Cryonet, I notice serious factual discussion, where participants often turn accusatory and sometimes claw at each other in outright nastiness, but never insert any humor. I am certain, well meaning banter, a twinkle of the eye and a bit of human warmth will not discredit a well reasoned contention, but would do a lot to extenuate much of the cold (and -192 is COLD) ;-) Frankensteinian image of 'mad scientists' (vee vill get you too!), who want to freeze people and then resurrect them in some future laboratory, and whose smile would presumably crack the surface of their prematurely frozen faces, making those visages that much harder to repair, when time comes for the revival of their bearers. When I often read about socials, which are organized by the various chapters of cryonics organization, I wonder if they are all stone-faced affairs, or if humor does indeed sneak in through some cracks from time to time. I abhor slapstick, but think the odd well placed quip would give the whole cryonics environment a friendlier, more humane atmosphere. I am convinced, that many people, before they pipe up with postings of their own, sneak a peak at the above NGs and are turned off by the mostly stern dialogue.
