In other words, how would I feel about being exterminated if I knew an 
incomplete backup of me existed? Well, I'd be unhappy about it, and my 
unhappiness would be proportional to the amount of incompleteness.

Exactly. The moral is, make sure your backup is not more than a second or two 
out of date. Even today it's possible to do that with an important data base, 
I can't claim total impartiality in this matter but personally I think I'm a 
very important data base.
