Subject: average life expectancy of 96 years

The front page of the Thursday, December 4, 1997 issue of USA TODAY was
an article entitled "Study Finds Major Gap in U.S. Life Spans". This
briefly mentioned some of the results of a county by county study of
longevity. One of the results was quite unexpected. Quote: "an Asian
women living in Bergen County, N.J. can expect to live for 96 years,
while the average black man in Washington, D.C. lives to age 62."
I find an average life expectancy of 96 hard to credit, but if true
this would be a most exciting finding.
