It has now over $403,000 per year pledged and that is still growing. The reason why Thomas made his comment about the name is that I have set up two trusts with other names for various functional purposes related to the Project and its goals. The Full Length Life Society (FLLS) is a tax exempt charitable trust organized as an Unincorporated Trust Organization which has applied for IRS 501(c)3 status. It will be a membership vehicle which will do the promotion, outreach, education and fundraising for the Prometheus Project and will contract for the Prometheus research to be done. It also will promote, raise funds and contract out research for several other purposes of suspended animation and cryopreservation technologies which are related to saving life but not to adult human life extension. I will announce here as soon as our 501(c)3 status is approved. As a charitable organization, it will be very easy for any other charitable or 501(c)3 organization, or Private Foundation to pass money over to FLLS and every person or organization making a contribution will be eligible to deduct the full amount of the contribution from his or her taxable income. I was not able to get the domain name "flls.org" since by dumb bad luck it was already taken by the "Finger Lakes Library System" (the only acronym remotely related which was taken). However, I did get "morelife.org" which I think is a great name. I have an initial index page at http://morelife.org (or http://www.morelife.org ) so you can check it out if you like, but it is not really ready yet. The prometheus site will be updated, moved to prometheus.morelife.org, and linked to FLLS very soon. The organization which will actually perform the research of the Prometheus Project under contract to FLLS is Life On Hold Trust (LOHT). This is also organized as an Unincorporated Trust Organization. It will not be officially tax exempt, but it will pay no taxes because it will not have any profits. As a trust, it has beneficiaries to whom it will make distributions of assets at some time in the future. These beneficiaries will hold Trust Certificate Units (TCUs), which will determine what proportion of any future distribution they will receive. The TCUs have no determinable value, are not tradable for any value and may only be exchanged with the permission of the board of trustees of LOHT. For these reasons, they are not classified as securities. The research that LOHT will do is within the charitable purposes of FLLS and can therefore be supported by it. The Prometheus Pilot project is also slowly proceeding. Greg Fahy is now living in Southern California and is working hard to get the research proposal finalized and into the research institute of the major medical center where the research will be done. This research and even what might come after it has been discussed in great detail on the Prometheus science list which Leonard Zubkoff, one of the pledgers, has kindly set up and is hosting for us. As you may recall, there will be a grant of a large sum of money offered by a research pathologist from his account at the research institute which will be available once the institute's research committee approves the project. We also have a qualified technologist who is most anxious to come and execute the project work under Greg's direction. I have made an initial request of "seed" money to get things moving, and have received to date cash contributions to FLLS of $23,500 with another $1,500 yet to come. The following highly commendable and far-sighted individuals contributed to this: Joe Hovey $1000 Thomas Donaldson $1000 Roy Yowell $5000 Mark Mugler $1000 John Pietrzak $1000 Mike Perry $1000 Jim Halperin $2000 Robert Krueger $2000 Ben Best $1000 Edgar Swank $8000 Ken Stone $1000 Brook Norton $1000 If anyone, current pledger or not, would like to add to this total, this would be very welcome. The earlier you contribute the more you have to gain in the long run. All contributions should be sent to: Paul Wakfer, trustee for FLLS 1220 E Washington St #24 Colton, CA 92324-6436 As soon as the web site is ready and the research proposal is complete and submitted with budgeting and staffing plans, I will announce this. I will then be seeking another $100,000 to add to the money which will come from the research institute. It is my hope and expectation that the Prometheus Pilot Project research will be underway by the end of January 1998. -- Paul -- Voice/Fax: 909-481-9620 Page: 800-805-2870 Full Length Life Society - http://www.morelife.org (not ready yet) A Charitable Trust Funding Research to Perfect Long-Term Stabilization of Life for Future Repair and Continuation Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=8920
