Subject: Prometheus Project Update

The Prometheus Pilot Project (PpP) now has received a total of $69,411
in donations either already in the bank, siting in my post box in Colton
CA (I am in Toronto for the holidays), on their way in the mail, or
promised by installments during 1998. I think that it is now very clear
(I really was never unconfident of it) that we *will* now be able to
match the $100K grant with a like amount of our own which was my goal.
This is especially clear since there is still no complete and detailed
plan of the science or budgeting of the PpP that can be presented (no
more than has already been posted here). Once such a plan is available
several more people will donate or increase their current amount.

Greg has been diligently working on a masterful science plan during the
holidays using the libraries at the NLM and NIH which are near his home
in Maryland (up for sale!) where he is spending the holidays. Some of
the papers required are by Japanese researchers and seem not to be
available even in those libraries, amazingly enough. He will have to
contact the Japanese authors to get reprints. However, I expect that
this detail will not hold us up from completing the PpP plan to the
submission level by our target date of the week of Jan 19. This
finalization of the submission should also go faster since the pathology
research professor making the grant available has now gotten himself on
the Internet.

This reminds me also that while phoning around to pledgers for
contributions, I discovered that many now had email addresses and had
not let me know. If anyone reading CryoNet is a pledger now or simply
wishes to be on the Prometheus Project insider list, s/he can cause this
to happen by going to the http://www.morelife.org site, filling out the
_Membership Application and Contribution Form_ and sending a $100
minimum membership fee in FLLS to the address below (or if a pledger
just sending me their email address). At the moment the form is still
not automated and will have to be printed and mailed.

Anyone (current pledger or not) who wishes to contribute to the PpP any
amount of money can send it to:

Paul Wakfer, trustee for FLLS
1220 E Washington St #24
Colton, CA 92324-6436

Installments promised to be sent during 1998, would be very welcome
also.

Please note that if you wish to have a receipt for possible 1997 taxable
income deduction purposes, you need to date your check in 1997 and get
it to the above address by Jan 12.
