X-Message-Number: 8976 From: Thomas Donaldson <> Subject: for.lovers.of.technology Date: Wed, 7 Jan 1998 00:30:48 -0800 (PST) Hi everyone! This message comes from enthusiasm. Just recently I finished reading the latest issue of IEEE Spectrum (Jan 1998). Most of it has no direct relationship to cryonics or aging at all, but the issue was devoted to various near term predictions of developments in many technologies related to the ambit of IEEE. These went from basic chip design and software to aerospace and electrical generation. Tons of interesting stuff. Some of it I even reported last year in PERIASTRON, but a lot of it would be very hard to link to cryonics. If you like to hear about technology and its advances, particularly near term (most articles looked further than 1998, a few only looked at 1998) it's a good read. The only article which made me feel a bit sad discussed use of electronic techniques to deal with Parkinson's Disease and quadriplegy --- both of which ought to have far superior biological treatments in 10 or 20 years --- though I can't deny that these methods are an advance. Lots of stuff in other fields. Nothing about immortality, of course. Best and long long life, Thomas Donaldson Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=8976
