X-Message-Number: 9081 Date: Sun, 1 Feb 1998 18:25:58 -0500 (EST) From: Charles Platt <> Subject: Probabilities I'm puzzled by Robert Ettinger's claims about probability. I'll call CI tomorrow and will order his booklet on this subject, which I haven't read. In the meantime, I wonder if he would explain how he can estimate, for instance, the probability of backlash against cryonics (similar to the backlash we have seen against cloning), which could result in legislation outlawing the procedure, or at least regulating it, which could drive cryonics organizations (as currently constituted) out of business. I don't see how anyone can come up with a standard deviation re the probability of future social trends that could trigger legislative action. Since I regard this as a fairly important potential problem affecting my chances of resuscitation, I believe that any estimate that ignores this would be of little value to me. --Charles Platt Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=9081
