X-Message-Number: 9382 Date: Tue, 31 Mar 1998 13:38:44 -0500 (EST) From: Charles Platt <> Subject: Latest Visser News I have been in correspondence with a Portugese journalist who is writing about Olga Visser, the Portugese woman who moved to South Africa and claims to cure AIDS patients with "Virodene"--a substance which, by truly amazing coincidence, she also used as a cryoprotectant when freezing rat hearts. (Tact inhibits me from reiterating any more details about that.) According to my source (see below) Olga is quite a celebrity in Portugal, and is hoping to market Virodene there, after her unfortunate experience in South Africa, where the Medicines Control Council required that Virodene be withdrawn. But wait--Olga may still prevail in South Africa after all! Her friend in government seems to have OVERTURNED the decision of the Medicines Control Council, and the South African government may market Virodene itself! (Naturally I would like some confirmation of this if anyone has checked South African news sources recently.) According to email that I received this morning from my journalist contact in Portugal: ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Tue, 31 Mar 1998 11:31:58 -0000 From: =3D?iso-8859-1?Q?Gra=3DE7a_Rosendo?=3D <> To: "''" <> Subject: olga visser Allo, Mr Platt Do you know that the south-african government suspend the activity of de Medicines Control Council? The MCC rejected for four times the Virodene trial in human and was always telling that the work of Visser's team was not good and releable enough to be test in people. Ms Visser tell us, last week, that she allways had the support of the Health minister, Ms Zuma. Before this decision, the Democratic Party reveled that ANC was interested in the Virodene commercialization. Curious, is'n it?
