I already conducted a survey of signed-up Alcor members several years ago..." Scott Badger's reply to this suggestion was: "If you've already conduced a survey of cryonicists, why do you feel it would be useful to do that again?" The answer would be to get more information about cryonicists. The survey Charles conducted was done several years ago. A better, more detailed, more up-to-date survey would thus be valuable. The more we know about ourselves, the better we can search for others like us. Moreover, there is a significant subset of cryonicists who were initially *not* sold on cryonics, but who were, eventually, persuaded by one thing or another to sign up. The more we know about what changed their minds, the better we can figure out how to change the minds of others who show interest in cryonics, but don't sign up for one reason or another. Currently signed up members could also provide us with the good source of unsigned-up people who would be good candidates for surveys and for recruitment. Most members personally know friends, relatives and business acquaintances who have expressed interested in cryonics, and who may have even said they *intend* to sign up at some point in the future. Such people also read Cryonet and Sci.Cryonics. Recently, several of them have made their existence known on Cryonet. I believe the pursuit of such people to partcipate in surveys, for discussions with signed-up cryonicists, and for aggressive recruitment efforts represents the best and most fruitful use of scarce resources aimed at contributing to the growth of the cryonics movement. ---Saul Kent, CEO 21st Century Medicine Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=9722
