I see several, some of which difficult to solve right now. But one of the most important is the lack of appeal to a large number of young people like myself. I have a very, very crude idea how to try to remedy that and I wonder if you could comment on that. I am a 22 year old 'starving' doctoral student, and as far as I know I am free of any disease. The only reason why I would consider signing up with a cryonics organization at that point is that, naturaly, you never know... Of course, the life insurance policy would solve that problem. (In my case there is an aditional problem of my leaving the US quite soon for Europe, and then probably some other continent again). I see that the process of signing up is rather complicated, with the need to set the cryonics organization as the policy beneficiary, etc, etc. I havent looked into the matter at all yet, but I can foresee problems with that in my particular case. I think that for people at ages less than forty a different aproach might work. My ideas here are very crude, and my knowledge of legal and financial issues more than limited. But at my age I could sing up for the suspension by depositing a certain amount of money one-time, for the sake of argument, say $1000. This money could be invested by the cryonics organization, and for the sake of argument again, lets say it would bring 10% annually. The average life expectancy of a person my age is at least 50 years, which would be about 100k, more than enough for a neurosuspension. If additionally there was a money-back quarantee, that is, I could un-sing-up at any point and take my deposit (that is, always just just this $1000) back, I think that would be appealing to many potential members. Of course, the amount of money that would have to be deposited would vary depending on the age of the potential member. I am sure that you must have considered such arrangements before, and I wonder what are the reasons why you decided it wouldnt work. borys Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=9728
