X-Message-Number: 9808 From: Subject: RE:Catch-22 References: <> Date: Fri, 29 May 1998 14:59:44 EDT Guys, I don't seem to be communicating to you properly. Yes, I am dubious about us ever reviving someone, but not one who considers the idea to be utter bilge. It is the people I discuss cryonics with who think it to be horsefeathers. Right now I am *very* limited in what research I can support, and I feel nanotechnology is a higher priority for my few dollars. Later I will maybe support cryonics research, and _perhaps_ even sign up. Even if it doesn't pan out, there will be spin-offs in cryobiology. But when I talk to people about cryonics, THEY JUST DON'T BELIEVE. Not "probably won't work"..."ain't gonna work!". Maybe my state is inhabited by Cro-Magnons (not neanderthals...they do drive cars here :-)). Or maybe I'm a much worse salesman than you people are. It just seems to me, based on my conversations with others, that the only thing that will make 99 and 44 hundreths percent of the population even consider cryonics would be a successful revival. And once that happens, only a very small and dwindling population will ever be suspended, because 99 44/100 % of the causes of death will be cured before medicine advances *that* far, and 55/100 % will be incurable no matter _how_ far medicine advances. So I think that we will never see more than a very small fraction of a percent of the population suspended.
