Subject: Re: Call for Input on Archetype Cryonics Trust

Hello to all,

I have been a "lurker" on cryonet for several years, and have been following
with interest the recent threads re: funding reanimation.

I have been an ALCOR member since 1994. I am a Certified Financial Planner
and am licensed in about a dozen states to sell life insurance to fund cryonic
suspension.

It is my intention and written goal to become the formost writer of life
insurance to fund cryonic suspension in the world.

Some of you reading this may have been present at the last (98) ALCOR Phoenix
Cryoconference when I brought up the question of the "Perfect" cryonics trust.

Jim Halperin (Author of "The First Immortal") took the opportunity to "put the
monkey on my back". He asked me if I would develop and promulgate such a
trust. And make it affordable and available to the masses, perhaps even the
complete text on the internet.

After a pregnant pause, I said, a simple "Yes, I will".

I have been overwhelming busy like nearly all of us since April, but have
still been making inquiries of my fellow cryonicists, attornys, and financial
planners.

There is *never* a perfect time to make something like this happen. But I am
making my *decision* to start this process TODAY!:) My apologies to Jim
Halperin for the delay. And you are still one of my heroes, Jim, for writing
The First Immortal and The Truth Machine.

I do not wish to reinvent the wheel. I have tremendous respect for the amount
of brainpower and effort that has already been applied to the challenges of
making cryonics and revival affordable and practical.

If a trust exists that will allow me, along with others, to INDIVIDUALLY
provide that the proceeds of the million dollars of life insurance I own on my
life to compound, with or without taxation, one BIG hurdle to popularizing
this meme of cryonics will be handled.

If we could provide a realistic possibility for individuals that upon
reanimation, they would wake up "rich", I must believe cryonics will blossom.

Jim Yount, at the American Cryonics Society, writes that ACS uses an
individual trust to fund suspensions in his 6/2/98 posting.

Jim, do these trusts avoid the law most states have against "perpetuities"?
Can the individual "overfund" the trust?, Suspension costs 125,000-- I have
625,000 of life insurance. How is the 500K invested? A separate trustee? A
bank?

I have heard that Saul Kent and some of the other "Big Players" in cryonics
have such a trust. What about it, Saul? I know you have and are continueing
to add your substantial resources and creativity to make cryonics more
"genuine" and viable.

One of the most effective ways of doing this, IMO, is for the people like you
who *have* researched trusts and/or have them in place to make these
available.

I have no doubt that thousands of dollars have been spent on developing such a
trust.
Perhaps tens of thousands. While I do not have unlimited resources (yet), I
am willing to invest my money as well as my time to make this work.

I am not an attorney. I do not wish to engage in "UPL" (unauthorized practice
of law) any more than I already do when doing the Revocable Living Trusts I
make available to my clients. (And I have a FL attorney sign off on these, in
case there are any beaurocrats lurking about):).

But I WILL serve as a clearinghouse of information on THE PROTOTYPE CRYONICS
TRUST.

I have waited in vain for the last 4 years for someone to step forward and
make such a trust happen.

While I have tremendous respect for the dedication that Paul Wakfer has shown
in his "mission", I hope this project can be accomplished MUCH easier.

I will outline the nature, provisions, and time frame for TPCT in a later
posting.

Thank you all in advance for any help, ideas, suggestions, or prototype
verbage on this most VITAL project.

Warmly and Sincerely Yours,
Rudi Hoffman
