"Contrary to what Eric Klien has written, I have in no way "backed
off" from my offer of a low interest loan, of up to the amount of the
donation, to anyone donating to Alcor."
This is not what Carlos told me. When I spoke to Carlos I
specifically asked if there were ANY emergencies that currently
qualified for Paul's backing. I was told no. Now that Paul has set
me straight I have called again and again offered to donate $10K for
the UK facility using Paul's loan. Carlos wasn't in, but I expect to
hear from him soon and I will set him straight about Paul's offer.
Paul seems to be saying that he is willing to loan money for ANY
Alcor donation as long as any possible additional financial benefits
of the donation go to Alcor, not to anyone involved in making the
donation. I am glad to hear that Paul really meant what he said in
his letter to Cryonics.
Note that it is possible that the other cryonicists that wanted to
use Paul's offer to help out the U.K. facility were as sincere as me
and were simply confused by Carlos when they called.

I finally got in touch with Carlos and explained Paul's position with
him. He said that the U.K. facility may be fully funded but if it
isn't, he'll be glad to accept my donation of $10K from Paul's loan
to me. So it looks like the U.K. facility will be saved!

[ That's great to hear that the Alcor U.K. facility apparently will
be saved! Also, I hope that all the misunderstandings about loans
and donations have been straightened out; it's a shame when
misunderstandings about a generous offer lead to hard feelings
among all concerned. - KQB ]
